Wine Exchange to Close Its Doors in Orange

Best Wines Group, established by two former workers at Wine Exchange, Tristen Beamon and Kyle Meyer, has bought the Wine Exchange in Orange. The Wine Exchange’s lease expires at the end of February, and the retailer will be folded into Best Wines Group. In spring, Best Wines Online will be renamed the Wine Exchange. Online wine ordering will still be available through the Wine Exchange website tag, Winex.com.

The store’s closing elicits a bit of nostalgia for me. I’ve browsed its aisles since it opened in 1982. Owner Steve Zanotti wrote what I considered the best wine newsletter in the business. He was a trusted voice, with a marvelous ability to succinctly describe a wine’s style and character. I could actually taste the wine he was describing. Each month, he sent out a multiple-page listing of the retailer’s wine inventory, with his reviews printed in his unique handwriting. Fortunately, Zanotti will continue to review and write for the new Wine Exchange.

In March, Winex.com will unveil a new look and brand experience while paying homage to its 30 years in business. “Though we are closing our doors in Orange, our customers’ expectations will be surpassed in the hands of the Best Wines Group,” said Zanotti.

The Best Wines Group shares its premium wine selection through video interviews with the world’s top wine talents, newsletters, and innovative current website at bestwinesonline.com. The owners are renowned for their personable touch and ability to break down the mystique of wine. Their retail store is located at the corner of Warner and the 55 Freeway.
