Taste Pinot Noir from the Extraordinary West Sonoma Coast

The Wine Dudes are excited to be a part of bringing an amazing new Orange County wine event to Honda Center on Nov. 8.

O.C.’s West of West Wine Festival, presented by the West Sonoma Coast Vintners and Orange Coast magazine, offers wine lovers an excellent opportunity to taste pinot noir, chardonnay, and other wines from highly-acclaimed producers in the West Sonoma Coast, several of which rarely pour at public tastings. A pinot noir tasting of this quality and magnitude has never previously been held in Orange County.

The unofficial subdivision of the Sonoma Coast AVA that’s designated the “West Sonoma Coast” is considered one of major epicenters of pinot noir winegrowing in California. Its location within a short distance of the Pacific Ocean creates a climate ideal for a special expression of pinot noir.

Many iconic California producers of premium pinot noir have staked a claim in the West Sonoma Coast, spending small fortunes on establishing vineyards in the remote locales of this region. Flowers Vineyards & Winery, Hirsch Vineyards, and Peay Vineyards have both vineyards and wineries there, while Martinelli, Failla, Fort Ross, Freeman, Joseph Phelps, Littorai, Pahlmeyer, Red Car, and Sonoma Coast Vineyards have established vineyards.

These 12 wineries, along with 19 others outside the West Sonoma Coast region that source grapes from within that region, will pour their limited-production wines at this inaugural event on Honda Center’s beautiful Grand Terrace. It will be a unique opportunity to meet the winemakers and taste nearly 100 extraordinary wines.

Festivities include gourmet fare from 10 notable Orange County restaurants (such as Charlie Palmer’s, The Winery, Wolfgang Puck at Honda Center, Antonello’s, and Wine Works for Everyone), a Sommelier Challenge, and an opportunity to meet me, Rusty, and Eric, the magazine’s “The Wine Dudes.” For tickets, visit orangecoast.com/wowoc
