Orange County will be represented at the Santa Monica Grand Tasting from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and 14, at the Santa Monica Pier. Chef Raj Dixit of Michael Mina’s Stonehill Tavern at The St. Regis in Monarch Beach, and chef Stéphan Tréand of ST Patisserie in SoCo, will take part in the culinary expo, which showcases at least 50 food vendors and beverage pairings daily. Proceeds will benefit The Chill Foundation.
Susan Feniger of L.A.’s Border Grill heads the culinary festivities as the featured chef along with 100 of Los Angeles’ top chefs.
Tréand is one of few chefs in the U.S. to have received France’s M.O.F. (Meilleur Ouvrier de France) patisserie award. Dixit, a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America, studied in Europe and was the opening chef for Dennis Foy and chef de cuisine for Tribeca restaurateur David Bouley, while opening his eponymous Bouley Restaurant in New York City. Dixit tries not to follow cooking trends and his skills are best demonstrated in his tasting menus.
As a side note, check out the incredible wine list at the Stonehill Tavern restaurant compiled by sommelier Paul Coker. It is available online at michaelmina.net. His “Desert Island” choices as well as many other cult wines are way beyond my means, but I can always dream. For tickets, visit the website, santamonicagrandtasting.com. Overnight accommodations are available at nearby Hotel Erwin.
