Stuff We Love has been meaning to get this: Vitra Eyewear, opened before the holidays in the Crate & Barrel wing of South Coast Plaza.
A pretty little boutique featuring designer frames — Fendi, Thierry Lasry, Chrome Hearts, Costa Mesa-based SALT — and sunglasses, Vitra looks more like a jewelry store than a eyewear boutique, it’s also a optical lab.
Vitra is the first, and only, boutique for the Las Vegas-based eyewear company. Vitra was founded by partners with scores of years in the optical industry — including ex-Oakley executive, Cosmas Lykos — who believe your eyewear is every bit as important an accessory as the jewelry, shoes or bag you wear.
But Vitra, filled as it is with splurge-worthy sunglasses (just in time for spring!) also offers boutique service and while-you-wait prescription-making. Featuring board certified opticians and a state-of-the art lab for measuring and making prescriptions (which is also rimmed with windows so customers can watch their eyeglasses being made while they wait, Vitra performs the whole precess onsite.
Opticians use 3D imaging and an “Augmented Reality” system that allows patients to see what different lens options look like through their own prescription.
