O.C.’s New Food Truck Wave—or Hello, Falasophy

We haven’t frequented a food truck roundup lately, mainly because when it comes to most concepts, we’d been there, done that. When mainstays like Taco Maria and Seabirds left the road, the lineup became even less interesting. But there’s a resurgence going on, with new recruits rolling in. Tri Tip Man serves its version of Santa Maria meats straight from a smoker. And “handcrafted” is the new catchphrase for The Cut, which applies it to classic burgers, and Sol Handcrafted Paletas, whose expertise is popsicles.

One of our favorite trucks supplies us with hummus and falafel. Falasophy’s vegetarian eats are a necessity, says owner Rashad Moumneh, who feels that society consumes too much meat. His meatless protein bowls can be garnished with a selection of toppings like avocado and marinated eggplant. Crunchy, round falafel can be “sandwiched” in Lebanese cucumbers and tahini.
