O.C. Answer Man: What’s the story on the towers along the 55 that glow various colors at night?

The two luminous 25-story towers called Essex Skyline at MacArthur Place are one of the few interesting sights on the 55 Freeway after dark, making them an instant landmark. They’re the tallest residential buildings in O.C. The builder opened them as condos in 2007, and a new owner turned them into luxury apartments in 2013. It was then that ever-changing colored lights were added on the side of each building. The colors usually cycle randomly, but the owners can also adjust them for special occasions, including red and green for Christmas. That’s cool. But the Answer Man is still trying to wrap his head around hip, metropolitan, high-rise living in south Santa Ana.
