O.C. Answer Man: Could those be Disneyland fireworks I’m hearing in South O.C.?

More likely it’s the sound of mortar fire, artillery fire, and other ordinance from the Marines at Camp Pendleton, just south of Orange County. When atmospheric conditions are right, you can hear the explosions as far as 50 miles away. In addition to being a training ground for good guys to stomp the bad guys, Camp Pendleton’s 125,000 acres include the largest undeveloped area of Southern California’s coast. The Marines are pretty good neighbors, even if they crash around and make noise sometimes.
