Céline Opens at South Coast Plaza

Céline at South Coast Plaza

I popped into South Coast Plaza the other day to check out the long-awaited reappearance of Céline and wasn’t disappointed.

Like a minimalist oasis on SCP’s first floor (Nordstrom Wing), Céline represents designer Phoebe Philo’s rigorous and elegant aesthetic perfectly.

Utilizing different textures and surfaces from smooth marble to rough pebbled terra cotta, the boutique—modeled after the mason’s Paris flagship store—features walls in warm stucco and arenino; the floors are textured gray Vincenza stone. Throughout the store are accents of onyx, travertine and pebble stone; black metal cubes are used to display Céline’s Fall bags and other accessories. Bespoke furniture by Danish artist Fos complements the artist’s pebbled stone terra cotta planters, a lamp and pink marble display case.

The store, which opened last week, showcases accessories in the front and apparel in the back. The overall feeling is one of calm, cool and quiet—but the staff is friendly and helpful.
