Answer Man: How does one spot fellow Orange County residents when traveling?

The Answer Man rarely ventures outside this paradise, so he doesn’t know firsthand. But reliable sources tell him the key is “nice” casual clothing. Yes, everyone dresses casually these days, but in much of the country the result looks a little sloppy. Parts of L.A. go to the other extreme, leaning toward pretentious, expensive-designer casual clothes. But Orange County—birthplace of OP, Hurley, Vans, Roxy, PacSun, Volcom, Mossimo, and Stüssy, and the home of Quiksilver and Rip Curl—strikes the right balance. Teenagers everywhere adopt these styles, but it takes folks from Orange County to make the surf/sportswear look work for them well into their 80s.
