The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, Irvine is founded on a commitment to the highest quality of patient care, groundbreaking research, and promoting education throughout our community. “Being professors, we are on the cutting-edge of modern and successful techniques, and our research is recognized worldwide as evidenced by the numerous awards received by our group,” says Department Chair, Nitin Bhatia, MD, F.A.C.S. “As one of the most dynamic orthopedic programs in the country, UC Irvine Orthopaedic Surgery provides care for all orthopedic conditions and injuries, focusing on the whole patient in a holistic and integrative method. UC Irvine Orthopaedic Surgery is the only University-level orthopedic provider in Orange County, and our faculty have been selected by for membership and leadership roles in exclusive international organizations including the Cervical Spine Research Society, the Scoliosis Research Society, the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, and the Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons. Members of the department presented or published over 100 peer-reviewed research projects in the past year, and we continue to receive awards and competitive funding for our ongoing work on the most modern and effective surgical techniques.
Additionally, the department is particularly proud that we are frequently asked to take care of other physicians and their families, and the excellent care we provide has led to numerous awards including: the 2018 Southern California Super Doctors (Nitin Bhatia, M.D.; Ranjan Gupta, M.D.; Neil Jones, M.D.; Greg Rafi jah, M.D.; John Scolaro, M.D.), the 2018 Orange County Medical Association Physician of Excellence Award (Drs. Bhatia, Gupta, Jones, Scolaro), and the 2018 Southern California Rising Stars Award (James Learned, M.D.; David So, M.D.). Dr. Neil Jones was also selected as the President of the American Society of Surgery for the Hand.
