As a board-certified surgeon with over 18 years of experience, Dr. Colleen Coleman’s areas of expertise include breast, endocrine and laparoscopic procedures. With a trailblazing career that includes becoming one of Hoag Hospital’s first female general surgeons and serving as the first female surgical department chair. Dr. Coleman is one of a team of eleven surgical experts at Newport Irvine Surgical Specialists. Newport Irvine Surgical Specialists offers a variety of expertise and experience in the treatment of General, Laparoscopic, Robotic, Minimally Invasive, Endocrine, Breast, Oncologic, Foregut, Hepatobiliary and Colon and Rectal Surgery as well as wound care and laser treatment.

A compassionate and dedicated physician, this past year Dr. Coleman had the opportunity to experience life on the other end of the scalpel when she donated a kidney to one of her colleagues. “Going through the process both during pre-op and post-op definitely gave me a deeper understanding of what patients feel when facing surgery.”
Dr. Coleman’s additional contributions at Hoag Hospital include working with the Breast Care Center; serving as Thyroid Program Surgical Director; and holding the current position of Surgical Department Chair. Dr. Coleman graduated from UC Davis with high honors, received her medical degree from the University of Southern California in 1993 and completed residency at UCLA in 2000. In addition to her surgical practice, Dr. Coleman has been married for over 25 years (her husband is also a physician) and is the mother of two active teenagers.
