Anaheim Hills native and winner of “So You Think You Can Dance” season 15
Hannahlei Cabanilla will teach and perform at the West Coast celebration of National Dance Day, Sept. 21 at the Julianne and George Argyros Plaza and the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. We spoke with Cabanilla earlier this year about her O.C. ties.
“I’ve gone to Orange County Performing Arts Academy since I was 2. I also danced in high school, and (before going on the show), I started at UC Irvine as a dance major. Dance is my life!
“During the show, my parents put posters of me in every business in town. When I came home, I was shocked people recognized me.
“My parents texted me every morning saying they were so proud of me. When they’d see me, they wouldn’t know what to say; they’d just cry.
“I grew up going to Segerstrom Center. The last time I was there, I watched ‘Hamilton,’ and (then I was) on the same stage for the (‘So You Think You Can Dance’) tour. It’s crazy!”
