A Newport Beach Home Entry That Pops

When Ashley Clark of Skout Interior Design was asked to lend her creative touch to this Spanish-style home owned by a young and exuberant Newport Beach family, her goal was to design a space that reflected them. As she explains it, one that is “less grown-up, but still sophisticated.” True to this notion is the home’s entryway. Using graphic tile, vintage fabrics, and just the right amount of eclectic flair, Clark made it welcoming and restful for the family, while creating a bit of intrigue for visitors.

1 • TILES
For added pop, Clark chose black‑and-white concrete tile sourced from Granada Tile, to replace the heavy, pre-existing
terra cotta flooring.

2 • PILLOWS
A collection of pillows covered in vintage textiles, all from the designer’s line, brings texture and comfort into the cozy space.

3 • BENCH
An alder wood slab adds practical seating and matches the beams in the living room. The addition elevates the space to more than
an entryway.

4 • LIGHTING
Accordion sconces from Crate & Barrel are an invitation to sit awhile and read—a perfect place to sort mail or thumb through a magazine.
