Mezzet Mediterranean Cuisine

Lamb tajine

Small plates and big flavors are the format at Mezzet Mediterranean Cuisine, in the former Nello Cucina space near the Bear Street carousel at South Coast Plaza. Named for the Middle Eastern small plates mezze, Mezzet offers dishes from Spain, Morocco, Lebanon, Greece, and the South of France. There’s an airy bar with awnings, an open dining room with wrought iron and rattan that faces an open kitchen, and a patio with sofas. Proprietors Joseph Dib and Wael Nasser, co-owners of Boubouffe in Long Beach, team with consulting chef Colin Colville and chef de cuisine Antonio Mattina to present a menu that includes octopus carpaccio duo, above, cauliflower hummus, kebabs, lamb tajine with couscous, a mezze sampler, and, for dessert, a red-yam-and-orange flan with caramel. Prices range from $6 to $28, from appetizers to desserts. Crate and Barrel/Macy’s Home Furniture Store wing, Level 1, 3333 Bear St., Costa Mesa, 714-540-3365
