From The Ashes: Anaheim White House Has Reopened And Is More Opulent Than Ever

One of the finest restaurants in North County before being hit by fire last year, the Anaheim White House has reopened and is more opulent than ever, with ornate white-and-gold tables and floor-to-ceiling frescos in every room. For three decades, this conversion of a century-old manor has been known for its elaborately presented cuisine. Signature dishes remain, notably the lobster ravioli, the popular appetizer and a long-ago favorite of Gwen Stefani, who grew up nearby. What’s new is the B Bar upstairs and its slightly more global menu that includes a colorful rice-doughnut starter, stuffed with crab, topped with seafood, and served with eel sauce (see Page 109); and foie gras crème brulée. Twin dining rooms flanking the entrance and behind glass are anything but private, and there is an elaborate event space. For his Caterina’s Club, which feeds nearly 4,000 hungry children daily, owner Bruno Serato has been knighted by the Italian government; was named a CNN Hero; and received the Ellis Island Award. He also is the author of a new book, “The Power of Pasta.”
