Bites: Burntzilla

2014-09-29-Burntzilla-Food-Pho-3619699150-OO.C.’s Burnt Truck serves sliders, and Dogzilla offers Asian-fusion hot dogs. Now the owners of both trucks, who gave up finance jobs to pursue culinary careers, combine their talents in the brick-and-mortar BurntZilla Modern Eats in their native Irvine.

Its modern comfort-food hits include an Angus-beef cheeseburger with avocado aioli, and a PBJ slider with house-made pretzel peanut butter, blueberry jam, and sliced bananas, with all sandwiches served on King’s Hawaiian Rolls.

The namesake Dogzilla, pictured, is a beef frank with avocado, grilled onions, teriyaki, Japanese mayo, furikake, and bacon. And the spicy chili dog is made with the winner of Tustin Street Fair’s chili competition. Try the garlic-Parmesan or carne asada tater tots or fries with a strawberry sweet tea. New on the menu: pork belly Caesar salad. Finish with a house-made ice-cream sandwich or off-menu bread pudding. $2 to $9.
