Bite: Now Open Taps Fish House & Brewery, Irvine

Landmark Brea destination Taps opens its third location on the Irvine side of The Market Place. Chef Andrew Monterrosa’s menu combines flavors of France, Asia, and New Orleans. Standout dishes include short rib meatballs and sizzling Japanese hamachi. Start with oysters, either on the half shell, charbroiled, or Rockefeller; finish with tableside butter cake.

Unlike the original restaurant, there’s no brewery on the premises, but more than a dozen of the 20 taps are devoted to signature and seasonal ales and lagers, including Belgian White, Irish Red, and Schwarzbier. Cocktails include the liquid nitrogen Siberian Mule, above, prepared tableside, and the draft Nolet’s Gin Old-Fashioned cocktail. Proprietor Joe Manzella’s other restaurants include The Catch in Anaheim and Lillie’s Q in Brea. Taps is renowned for its elaborate Sunday brunch.

Appetizers, $11 to $18; entrees, $18 to $39; desserts, $8 to $11.
