Bite: Who Song & Larry’s

Mexican Gastropub

Editor’s note: Who Song and Larry’s closed March 2017

Carnitas sliders? Minitacos, above? They’re just two menu highlights at this new Cal-Mex cantina serving sharable, eclectic fare at the Stadium Promenade in Orange. The lively spot is part of an overhaul by Real Mex, parent company of El Torito, and Las Brisas in Laguna Beach, whose concept is based on fictional world-traveling friends. Decor includes chandeliers, “mementos” of the characters’ travels, colorful paintings of alluring women, and an indoor-outdoor bar. Crossover dishes from executive chef Johannes Bernau, whose background is Japanese, Dutch, and Indonesian, include lobster mac ’n’ cheese enchiladas ($17), and the Avocado Split dessert with dulce de leche ice cream, pecan brittle, and XO sauce ($7). Guacamole is prepared tableside ($10). Don’t miss the shareable Larry y Yo cocktail ($18), and agua frescas made with alcohol.
