Touting “the best sandwiches to ever hit the lip,” new Sessions West Coast Deli on Newport Peninsula is the brainchild of three surf-and-sandwich-loving guys, Matt Meddock, and co-owners Max Schlutz and Beckham Thomas. Wedged between Newport and Balboa boulevards, the deli features a clean lacquered-wood aesthetic, and the cool faux-vintage surf photography of Doug Birnbaum. Consider the Banh Mi with meatball, Sriracha aioli, pickled onion, jalapeño, and carrot on a French roll ($9); the Sloppy Barney, above, with pulled pork, pickle, red onion, jalapeño jack, and slaw ($9); or a Thai Cobb salad ($8). Start your day with a simple toasted bagel ($1.50) or, when ravenous after your morning waves, the McSessions: bacon, egg, Vermont Cheddar, and Sriracha maple syrup on a bagel ($5). Sessions also serves Two Leaves and Bud organic teas, and Kean coffee.
