Bite: Newport Beach’s new Lighthouse Bayview Café

Lighthouse Bayview Café Newport Harbor has two new lighthouses. One has broad red-and-white stripes and houses a slide for the playground at Balboa Peninsula’s new Marina Park. The other, at the park’s community and sailing center, is an architecturally stunning glass-and-steel beacon for the new Lighthouse Bayview Café. The two-story restaurant is the latest from Doug Cavanaugh, founder of the Ruby’s chain. Executive chef Ryan Sumner, 25, offers fare as diverse as BobHodsonPhoto_0173challah-bread French toast and sweet-potato short-rib hash at breakfast, burgers and pork-belly banh-mi steam buns at lunch, and ahi wonton tostadas and bouillabaisse at dinner; cinnamon beignets are a specialty any time of day. Enjoy the Fojito mocktail and cucumber lemonade as well as beer and wine. The second-floor patio boasts spectacular harbor and mountain views and is dog-friendly; guests can use the elevator. There’s also dock space for boaters and a to-go walk-up window for picnickers. Entrees: breakfast $10 to $14; lunch, $10 to $18; dinner, $15 to $33; appetizers, soups and salads, desserts, and beverages, $3 to $16.
