Bites: La Vida Cantina

La Vida Burrito

Foodie hearts were broken last year when The Triangle’s El Corazon de Costa Mesa promised elevated Mexican fare and didn’t deliver. La Vida Cantina, from the team behind the adjacent nightclub Sutra, breathes new life into the outdoor space that boasts five fire pits beneath two oversized palapas. The menu includes Rico’s Queso, a cheese-white wine dip with ground beef, chorizo, and chipotle ($5); ensalada de asada, mixed greens, roasted corn, red bell peppers, and avocado in creamy chipotle dressing, topped with grilled Angus steak and queso fresco ($15); Maine-lobster enchiladas in a salsa verde, with avocado, cotija, and Mexican cream ($20); and Creamy Berry Crunch, vanilla-bean ice cream in a fried cinnamon tortilla bowl, topped with chocolate and a berry coulis ($5). Cocktails (most $12) include the house margarita with Maestro Dobel Diamond, a multiaged, clear tequila ($8, pitcher $52). 1870 Harbor Blvd., Costa Mesa, 949-612-2349,
