Bite: Ironwood Brings Wine Country Cuisine to South O.C.

Restaurateur Russ Bendel and chef-partner Jared Cook, the team behind highly VineIMG_0810regarded Vine in San Clemente, bring their wine-country cuisine to Laguna Hills at the new Ironwood. The high-decibel dinner spot—inspired by ironwood that’s used to make culinary tools and by the desert ironwood trees on the property—offers a view of Saddleback from its patio. The menu of New American fare includes items such as an English pea dumpling appetizer with fresh goat cheese, brown butter, spring garlic, Thai basil, and mint; Jidori chicken schnitzel with beech mushrooms, herb spaetzle, squash, beans, and a lemon-and-basil emulsion; and a warm fromage blanc brownie with Nutella ice cream and filbert praline. Diners can choose from 25 wines by the glass, 50 by the bottle, and 10 each of craft beers and craft cocktails, including from left Baby Blues, Great Scott, and Snozzberry. Herb and floral garnishes are organically grown at Vine. Dishes range from $5 to $36.
