It’s been two decades since The New York Times named the Taipei location of Din Tai Fung—renowned for its Shanghai-style soup dumplings xiaolongbao—among the world’s top 10 restaurants. Since then, its Hong Kong branches have each earned a Michelin star and, closer to home, Jonathan Gold of the L.A. Times recently included its Glendale restaurant among his top 101 in Southern California. Gold notes that when each dumpling “bursts into a flood of fragrant broth, the moment is as exquisite as you’d dreamed it might be.” Now you can find out for yourself at South Coast Plaza. Choose from about a dozen dumpling varieties, including “juicy” pork and crab, and green melon and shrimp. Or, go for an appetizer of seaweed and bean curd in vinegar dressing; house chicken noodle soup; spicy shrimp-and-pork wontons; or sauteed string beans with garlic.
