Bite: Babette’s, Local, Sustainable, and Grass-Fed Fare

Popular East Hampton eatery Babette’s, offering locally sourced produce and organic, sustainably sourced seafood, and grass-fed meats, opens its first West Coast location at Crystal Cove Shopping Center in Newport Coast. A hand-carved wood bar beneath a vaulted atrium ceiling is the focal point, along with an inviting lush patio. Menu highlights include: vaduvan-scented sweet-potato gnudi with Brussels sprouts, heirloom beans, Parmesan, and kale-sage-pumpkin seed gremolata ($24), and a sake-soy-marinated rib-eye with broccoli di ciccio, shishito pepper, charred scallion-bone-marrow puree and pomegranate glace ($42). Soups, sauces, and dressings are dairy-free, and there are pastries, and fresh-pressed organic juice and handcrafted cocktails. Don’t leave without trying the The Billionaire: Bakers 107 Bourbon, lemon, grenadine, absinthe bitters and lemon slice.
