Best New Restaurants 2020: Crudo at The Hall Global Eatery Has An Upscale, Yet Low-Key Vibe

Open since January, The Hall Global Eatery kicked off 2020 with hospitality on a grand scale. Its stylish 8,000-square-foot setting caters to many modes of dining, and full-service Crudo launched just in time to land on this list. Upscale yet low key, it’s a bit lost in The Hall’s hubbub, but do search out the latest from Amar Santana and Ahmed Labbate, the firebrand duo behind Broadway and Vaca.

Crudo is where you’ll find Santana’s riffs on seasonal crudos dressed with worldly flavors: Hiramasa against yuzu kosho buttermilk and pickled seaweed, octopus carpaccio under Kalamata olives, piquillo yogurt and marinated feta. Peruvian scallops in their sharp striped shells—tuned with coconut, finger limes, and crushed corn nuts—show off Santana’s flavor paint box. The tight menu of kitchen fare includes a stellar endive salad and a fierce Prime skirt steak with creamed peppercorn sauce. Indulge in raw-bar treats or order from a deep charcuterie selection.

Escape The Hall’s bright lights with a table on the unseen mellow patio shaded by olive trees. It shares a glass wall with the 21-seat bar featuring inimitable house drinks created by cocktail wizard Michael Rooney. P.S.: You can enter Crudo without going into South Coast Plaza.
