Asian-Fusion Seafood at Supernatural Sea to Sandwich in Santa Ana

New at 4th Street Market, Supernatural Sea to Sandwich began as a farmers market stand. It opened its first brick-and-mortar in San Diego six years ago, where it quickly earned a reputation for creative Asian-fusion seafood. The Santa Ana menu has signature top-loaded shrimp sandwiches, including the Siren with spicy garlic shrimp; the Aphrodite shrimp-and-bacon grilled cheese; and the elaborate Kraken with a quarter-pound of chilled jumbo lump crab, Thai-chile aioli, scallions, crispy shallots, and charred lemon. New is the Cantonese-style Kaiju—salt-and-pepper ginger-scallion lobster roll with crispy garlic and jalapenos. Non-seafood options include a fiery curry chicken sandwich and a Korean-barbecue steak melt with kimchi. Sides include superb garlic fries and a scallop-bacon chowder. Sandwiches, $8 to $16; specials, $9 to $22; sides and add-ons, $2 to $5.
