A Moving Cocktail at El Mercado Modern Cuisine in Santa Ana

El Mercado Modern Cuisine barman Cesar Cerrudo presents his cocktail El Inquieto, “the restless one,” atop a special-edition toy-piano music box created 21 years ago for the 50th anniversary of “Peanuts.” The keys move as the “Peanuts” theme plays and, replacing the original dancing Snoopy and Woodstock, a restless mini sombrero and sarape move about the lid. Cerrudo considers the concoction autobiographical: Growing up, he was a “Peanuts” fan and, like the little hat and sarape, he never stopped moving.

The drink is made with Mestiza mezcal, Luxardo liqueur, Mexican aperitif Fernet-Vallet, and chocolate mole bitters. “It brings you joy, it brings you bitterness, it brings you happiness, it might make you cry,” Cerrudo says. “It’s just life all around.” 301 N.
