The Arts and Crafts movement had Northern California, but Midcentury Modern reached its zenith in Palm Springs. There are walking tours; “Think and Drink” events; academic panel discussions of (sub)urban design and public space; tours of iconic homes; lectures on the Rat Pack, Space Age mania, and mixology. And a lot of cocktail parties. Many events are free (tickets for others range from $10 to $150). The marquee event is “An Afternoon with “Mad Men.” For $75, participants can attend three panel discussions: the first with the show’s set-design team, the second with its costume designer Trina Turk and actress Jessica Pare, and the third with executive producer Matthew Weiner and his entire creative team.
