Outpost Kitchen has opened its second location in Costa Mesa, and it’s quite the contrast from its original restaurant. Whereas Outpost Kitchen’s first spot is in an industrial district off the beaten path, the second is amid bustling South Coast Plaza.
Outpost Kitchen’s new outpost is at the corner of Sunflower Avenue and Bristol Street in the South Coast Plaza Office Division, directly across from the shopping destination. At nearly 4,000 square feet, this newest Outpost is almost four times larger than the original, which continues to operate. The restaurant features outdoor and indoor seating, plus a 16-seat concrete bar where you can watch the kitchen at work.
“We chose to open another location in Costa Mesa because we’re excited about the diversity and opportunity this city has to offer,” said restaurateur Jay Lewis, an Australia native who now lives in the city with his wife and two sons. “We want to celebrate the community that’s embraced us and the culture we’ve created since opening our first location five years ago.”
What hasn’t changed is the vision, energetic vibe, and tasty yet healthy eats from the quick-service establishment. Outpost Kitchen South Coast Plaza emphasizes the use of California-grown produce, organic and humanely raised meats, and sustainable seafood. With the enhanced size of this second location comes another bonus: a full bar.
And even the drinks come with a wholesome twist. The cocktail menu offers superfood-infused libations and ingredients more often found at a juice bar than one that serves booze. Think spirulina, beetroot, turmeric, and moringa, which comes from a plant that has been used for medicine for centuries. And yes, I had to Google that last one.
Like the original location, this second Outpost Kitchen will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast is a highlight unto itself, served from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and filled with offerings that earned it a place among our Best Breakfast Spots in Orange County. Lunch service begins at 11 a.m., and dinner at 5 p.m.
