Loyal customer, turned faithful employee, now proud owner, Poppy Holguin keeps Jan’s Health Bar in Huntington Beach moving forward — 45 years and four stores later.
As a sophomore at Huntington Beach High School, Poppy found her very first job at Jan’s. In 2010 she purchased the Huntington Beach institution and is dedicated to carrying on the rich tradition of feeding generations living in the local community.
“It’s the customer loyalty and their love for our food and brand that has kept Jan’s in business all these years. A healthy lifestyle is a personal journey — there is no one-size-fits-all plan. And while the benefits of eating healthy are endless, our goal is to help the customer cut through the confusion of the latest health trend by providing them a menu that is approachable and simple. “
Jan’s strives to promote a place where people can enjoy healthy food and a sense of community.
“I’m passionate about the Jan’s lifestyle. Keeping it all in check — rather than the incessant deprivation and self-criticism that especially as women we can get caught up in,” explains Poppy. “Embracing the imbalance in life and knowing that I’m doing the best that I can that particular moment or day. Being a business owner, mom, wife, friend, and taking care of my wellness can be a bit daunting, but I have learned that it isn’t about doing it all, it’s about embracing the imperfections and sometimes neglecting almost everything to focus instead on those precious few things that mean the world to you.”
