No. 9 Tackle Box
Pretty, tidy Corona del Mar State Beach now has a “Top Chef”-driven, year-round chow counter. Pasadena native and chef-owner Brian Huskey, who finished in the top five in the show’s 11th season, calls his newest venture a “local grub shack,” which undersells his affordable menu of daytime fare that opens with dishes such as avocado-smoked salmon tartine and chilaquiles with black beans, then rolls into lunch with Maine lobster roll on squid-ink bun, chicharron-spiked clam chowder, and a killer Buffalo cauliflower for bikini-conscious vegetarians. No booze, but there’s a Jones soda selection and house-made agua fresca, perfect on a summer day for chasing those seasoned house fries. Noshing with bare, sandy feet never tasted so good. Look for Tackle Box at the lifeguard station.
FIELD NOTES Closed Monday, which makes Taco Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., a delicious start to your week.
