Scott Sablan finds inspiration where quality and design intersect, and it shows at his OC Mix store, Cloth & Metal. “That’s the lens we look at everything through,” says Sablan, 35. Timeless men’s clothing, sleek leather furnishings, audio equipment, and a state-of-the-art sound bar, where customers can test a collection of headphones and other gear before buying, make it more than just a T-shirt-and-jeans shop. This penchant for quality also extends to his website, where he strives to recreate the customer experience of the store.
Sablan became aware of fashion and lifestyle trends while working as a developer-manager for audio companies. Ever the entrepreneur, he wanted to create a “cool man cave” where customers could find their style. So he opened Cloth & Metal in April 2013, and expanded it to three times its original cubbyhole.

The shop’s American-Heritage-meets-midcentury-modern vibe is evident in a hemp, striped T from L.A.-based Jungmaven ($58) and raw and selvedge denim from Japanese brand Naked & Famous. Footwear includes Wolverine boots ($300 and up) and SeaVees tennis shoes ($78 to $128). The store stocks watches from Shinola, and vintage Rolexes that run into the thousands, as well as grooming products, Vince leather jackets ($995) and Moore
& Giles leather Campaign chairs ($1,200). Sablan says customers range from local CEOs to chefs and the sartorially hip.
