On Coast Highway in Corona del Mar, Red Fox boasts the floor-to-ceiling windows, concrete floors, exposed brick, and industrial rustic chic of many modern shops. But its mix of emerging and local lines makes it a standout. O.C. native Jeremy Scruggs, 39, and wife Tara opened their first Red Fox—an adorable, small space—in Laguna Beach in 2012, but “wanted to connect to a larger audience and be closer to established clientele,” Jeremy says. The CdM store, opened a year ago and co-owned by friends Celine Miller and Kim Carey, offers what Jeremy, a veteran of South Coast Plaza and Newport Beach boutiques, calls “on trend and wardrobe-building” apparel. Prices range from $50 for upscale basics to $650 for dresses. Local lines, such as SPF Addict (sun-protective clothing) and IVI (uber-sleek sunglasses), share space with higher-end pieces from Elizabeth and James, along with of-the-moment shoulder-baring tops from Amanda Uprichard and boho-chic maxi dresses and jumpsuits from Karina Grimaldi. “We’re very excited about a cool new line called Cinq à Sept, which bridges the gap between high design and contemporary,” he says. “It’s out of New York, and we’re one of a few specialty stores that will carry it.”
