or Heather Hart of Newport Beach, salons were always a letdown. “I could find great stylists, a great esthetician, great blow-dry, but I couldn’t find a place where I wanted to sit for an hour. So I decided to open one myself,” says Hart, 48, who in April launched Lavender Salon & Boutique in Castaway Commons. An oasis of marble and gilt, it’s about as far away from a typical salon as O.C. is from Paris, which inspired it. With ceiling TVs above each posh shampoo chair, state-of-the-art dryers, and a bakery case that doubles as a drink bar (coffee, tea, Champagne, cognac, and tequila), Lavender is a pamper palace. Staff members are elegantly clad in black. Services range from $40 to $2,000 and include cuts, color, extensions, blowouts, makeup application, and a full menu of skin treatments. Shop for vintage Chanel bags and Louis Vuitton luggage as well as beauty elixirs that include well-known brands such as Antica Farmacista and RMS Beauty, whose products are made from food-grade, natural ingredients. “Too often getting your hair done is about getting from point A to point B, but Lavender is about the journey. We want you to enjoy the whole experience,” Hart says.
