Anderson Brothers Design & Supply stands out on Seal Beach’s Main Street for its cream-with-black-trim exterior next to an idyllic flower shop. Stop in on a Friday, and you might be able to join co-owners John and Mike Anderson for occasional “free beer Fridays.” “There isn’t any place in the country I would rather work than right here,” John says.
Inside, you’ll find the brothers’ three private labels: Tankfarm & Co., Grit and Gravel, and Outsiders Land and Sea. The latter two were created after a suggestion from investor and partner Marcus Lemonis when the company starred on an episode of CNBC’s “The Profit.” Tankfarm & Co. remains their most-popular brand, with soft, sueded blank T-shirts ($20) that fly off the shelves. “We cannot keep that stuff in stock. A guy will come in, and he will buy five blank T-shirts,” John says.
The more profitable side of the business is behind the floor-to-ceiling glass wall that divides the store. On any day, you can see the team designing merchandise for companies across the country, including Noble Ale Works, Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que, and more.
This month, the brothers launch a fall line, offering customers graphic T-shirts ($30), hats ($24.50), and flannels ($72) in mustard, gray, and forest green. Be sure to watch for a collaboration next month with actor Colin Hanks.
