Mantra Fitness

It might look like students here are doing Pilates, but they’re actually following the Lagree method, which blends Pilates movements with cardio and bodybuilding techniques, all performed on a reformer-like machine called a Megaformer. The small group classes are appropriate for all levels, as the friendly and attentive instructors offer modifications for beginners and for those ready to take on more challenge. 31654 Rancho Viejo Road, 949-388-0002

Konversion Fit

Barbells, kettlebells, weight benches, stationary bikes, rowing machines, and racks of heavy dumbbells line the walls of this no-frills gym, which offers group classes and personal training focused on building strength and fitness through weightlifting. Founder Joshua Kuluris emphasizes form and technique in the daily KWOD class, 45 minutes of interval or strength training mixed with bursts of cardio. Everyone is welcome, from novice lifters to serious athletes. 31742 Rancho Viejo Road, 949-683-5232

Capistrano Academy of Dance

A favorite of local dancers since it opened 2004, the studio’s schedule includes jazz, lyrical, ballet, tap, tumbling, and hip-hop classes for kids ranging from preschoolers to high schoolers. Owner Sharon Kinney, a former professional dancer, was the artistic director for the Houston Dance Theater when she developed an award-winning dance program for children, which she offers here, along with the opportunity to dance on a competition team. 31734 Rancho Viejo Road, 949-429-2662

Pacific Pearl Cafe

The bakery case goodies here—including the sharing-size oatmeal cookie and the Bribery Bread with bananas, dates, salted caramel, and oat streusel ($6)—are gluten free, and the menu includes healthy choices for breakfast and lunch. Many of the greens and vegetables in the salads, bowls, and sandwiches are sourced from the nearby Ecology Center, and the coffee comes from Costa Mesa’s MoonGoat Coffee Roasters. 31654 Rancho Viejo Road, 949-842-6379
