“Up & Down,” the latest ballet by St. Petersburg choreographer Boris Eifman, comes to Segerstrom Center for the Arts June 5 through 7. It’s loosely based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s last completed novel, “Tender Is the Night” (1934). Set in the 1920s, the ballet follows a psychiatrist who falls in love with his patient. The couple leave the clinic and turn to a life of drinking and dissolution, which leads the psychiatrist into madness. Freelance photographer Michael Khoury, who has recorded many of Eifman’s works and whose images are featured in a coffee table book about the company, shot these photos in Russia at the world premiere in January and in Paris in early February. We’re pleased to be able to display them here. For more information about the ballet go to scfta.org–Laura Bleiberg
