Letter From the Editor: A Great Diversion When Staying Home

Our April issue, Best New Restaurants, went to press eight days before all restaurants in Orange County were ordered to close for in-person dining because of COVID-19 concerns. No cultural or sporting events had been canceled or postponed when we finished our work on this issue. It’s mind-blowing how much has changed in slightly more than two weeks.

It’s our hope that you will appreciate the amazing photos and stories in this issue as a diversion when it arrives in your mailboxes. Perhaps it will give you inspiration for where to go once we can go out again. I’d also encourage you to enjoy takeout food from as many local restaurants as you can during this time, so that they might have a chance to get back to whatever normal looks like sooner than later.

We’re busy switching gears so that our May cover story reflects the heroes, helpers, and uplifting stories all around Orange County when everything closed. It’s given me tremendous pride to watch our O.C. neighbors do things large and small for one another, and I’m delighted we have a way to share those with you. In the meantime, turn to orangecoast.com for updates, resource information, social distancing survival tips, and feel-good stories from our community. We know we will come away from this together and with a strong sense of purpose and feeling connected. I’ve seen it again and again, from a safe distance, of course, for the past few weeks!
