Editor’s Letter | February 2017

Real estate conversations seem to happen everywhere in Orange County. I was at the gym last weekend when I found myself in the midst of a discussion about how a seller could get the best price for her condo. At a party, I learned that my neighbors are in a very extended escrow and delighted about it. Although I’m not in the market for a new home, I never tire of walking around a different area and checking out houses. I muse about the people who live there and which home I’d choose if I lived in that neighborhood—a little bungalow in Laguna Beach or the mauve multistory perched on the cliff in Corona del Mar? I’m eager to find decorating ideas, and I like to daydream about decor. And our yard is often in a state of upheaval because of a project.

I promised we’d increase our home coverage in Orange Coast—so here we are! This issue marks the debut of our now-monthly O.C. Home section (page 63), helmed by Home Editor Ada Madigan. You’ll find an expanded version of On The Market with bigger photos of houses to fawn over. We’ll also talk to innovators and interesting local people for our new At Home With feature. And this month we’re highlighting all things copper in Sourced, the place to discover great local items for your home. (The pendant light, the tea kettle, the salad servers … I love them all!)

Whether you’re looking to remodel your house, purchase a new one, or just spruce up a room or two, we have plenty of inspirational ideas. We hope you’ll find something that sparks your creativity and gets you in the mood for a spring makeover.
