Pizza Port | Ultimate O.C. Beer Guide

The average beer fan is blissfully unaware Pizza Port is near the beginning of SoCal’s craft beer timeline. When co-owner Vince Marsaglia went pro with his homebrews in 1992, in the original Solana Beach location, the place quickly became a neighborhood hot spot. Not only does it make great beer, Pizza Port has produced world-renowned brewers such as Tomme Arthur at Port Brewing and the Lost Abbey in San Marcos, Jeff Bagby at Bagby Beer Company in Oceanside, Yiga Miyashiro at Saint Archer in San Diego, and Ryan Fields at Beachwood’s new sour beer Blendery in Long Beach. Another thing it creates? Attention. Pizza Port’s five locations have racked up an impressive 85 medals at the Great American Beer Festival and numerous World Beer Cup awards. Factoid: Stone Brewing Co. in Escondido (now the largest craft brewery in SoCal) sold its first keg to Pizza Port Solana Beach 19 years ago.

HOP TIP In August, keep an eye out for Pizza Port’s Star Wars-inspired It’s a Tap! event featuring Star Wars-themed beers, trivia, and plenty of beer-buzzed cosplay.
