“Dimensions of Form: Tamayo and Mixografia”

In 1973, the Remba family, owners of a commercial print shop in Mexico City, asked artist Rufino Tamayo to create a series of prints at the shop. Together, they developed a technique for producing prints in relief, created a new type of paper that would show texture and detail, and changed the shop’s name to Mixografia to reflect the new medium. Fifty of the three-dimensional prints, showing everything from silhouetted figures to Quetzalcoatl, are on display in this exhibit. Opens…

“Thomas Hunt: California Modernist”

An active member of the Laguna Beach Art Association in the 1920s, Hunt is best known for paintings of coastal and harbor scenes in Southern California and Gloucester, Mass., that showcase his innovative use of color and broad brushwork. “Arthur Beaumont: Art of the Sea”

Beaumont spent his career capturing the accomplishments of the U.S. Navy on canvas. His watercolors, some of which were published in National Geographic, depict the launch of the USS Constitution, World War II battles, and expeditions to the North Pole. He also painted specific vessels, including aircraft carriers and destroyers, and was named artist laureate of the U.S. Fleet in 1958. Opens Oct. 26 at the Bowers Museum. 2002 N. “Heriberto Luna”

Luna’s paintings reflect his Mexican ancestry and take inspiration from pre-Columbian art and culture. Pacific Symphony presents its take on the composer’s Symphony No. 7, which was embraced from the moment it was first performed in 1813.
