Artist Concept/Disneyland Resort
Earlier today, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products chairman Josh D’Amaro announced at the company’s first large fan event since the COVID shutdown in Florida a handful of new and returning experiences coming to the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim next year.
MagicBand+ and ‘Hey, Disney!’ are coming to the Disneyland Resort!
The next-generation MagicBand+ wearable technology and “Hey, Disney!” voice assistant, recently announced for Walt Disney World Resort, will be coming to Disneyland Resort in 2022!
This will mark the first time MagicBand, Disney’s all-in-one theme park connected wrist-worn device, will be available at Disneyland Resort to enhance the guest experience with hands-free convenience as it unlocks unique moments of magic for Disneyland Resort guests. Some of the features of MagicBand+ will vary between Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort with additional details coming in the months ahead.
For those staying at a Disneyland Resort hotel in 2022, they’ll also get to experience the “Hey, Disney!” voice assistant in their rooms. Powered by an Amazon Echo device, guest can simply ask for pertinent resort information like parade times, best places to eat, attraction wait times, and more. It will work alongside Alexa on personal Amazon Echo devices and also will begin rolling out to guest rooms across the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort.
Downtown Disney District Continues to Be Reimagined at Disneyland Resort
The Downtown Disney District is about to embark on its next evolution of innovative shopping, dining and entertainment experiences.
Continuing that momentum, the Disneyland Resort is planning a multi-year project to take Downtown Disney District to the next level, with work beginning in January 2022. Kicking off the project, the former AMC Theatres building and adjacent area will finally be demolished and be transformed into a stunning new lifestyle space. Drawing inspiration from Southern California mid-century modern architecture, the area will be a beautiful blend of vibrant color palettes, multi-cultural design elements and patterns, an open lawn for relaxation and future events, and an even broader collection of dining and shopping.
To accommodate this work, Earl of Sandwich, Sugarboo & Co. and Starbucks Coffee on the west end of the district will close in late January 2022. The Starbucks location on the east end near World of Disney will remain open.
Additionally, existing areas are being modified or returning in the near future:
• Mickey’s ToonTown is getting an overhaul for more spaces for families to play (including a whole new attraction, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway).
• A new hotel tower is being added to the Disneyland Hotel themed after Disney animated classic films like Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, and more.
• Fan favorite nighttime spectaculars are returning in 2022 like Fantasmic! and World of Color.
The Disneyland Resort is open and currently celebrating the holiday season. Tickets and theme park reservations are required for entry. For more information, visit their official website.
