ToOC December recap:  Mag staff fave desserts

Orange Coast‘s December print cover heralded a story on fabulous Orange Count desserts, which gave me the idea of quizzing the mag staff for favorite dessert recipes. (A digital copy of the December “Ultimate Dessert!” issue is availalble for purchase online.)

What I got in answer to this simple query was pretty extraordinary, in range and content, and each is sort of exactly the type of recipe that gets slotted right into the “keeper” section of a collection.

In order of appearance, we had Senior Editor Chris Christensen’s favorite pumpkin pie, Senior Editor Anne Valdespino’s buñuelos, Art Director Mindy Benham’s lime-glazed pound cake, Contributing Editor Cynthia Furey’s Brown Sugar Cookies, Editor-in-Chief Martin J. Smith’s Southern Pecan Pralines, and lastly, my own contribution, double depth-charged gingersnaps.

So fruitful! I plan to pick the brains of the mag staff on other food-related subjects going forward. Wouldn’t be right to let them hide this light under a bushel basket any longer, would it?

We can all look forward to more in 2011.
