SO not diners, drive-ins, nor dives: Food Network star chefs to cook @ Zov’s

This weekend, meaning this entire weekend, Zov’s Bistro in Tustin will host two Food Network star chefs at a fundraiser benefiting the James Beard Foundation’s scholarship program. Michael Symon, an Iron Chef on the eponymous show, and Anne Burrell, host of Secrets of a Restaurant Chef (and former Mario Batali sous chef on IC), will mix and mingle before, during, and after preparing two different menus for epicurean do-gooders.

Saturday evening, completely sold out at $500-per, Symon and Burrell will prepare a five-course dinner with wine pairing, to be served in the private dining room at the Zov’s flagship location. Sunday at noon, for which some $250 tickets are still available, it’ll be three chefs on duty when Zov joins Symon and Burrell in preparing family favorite dishes. Barbara Fairchild, editor in chief of Bon Appétit magazine, will host this afternoon event.

Orange Coast Senior Editor Chris Christensen will be on the scene Saturday, and will be giving ToOC a complete report. ToOC especially wants to know if Michael Symon’s laugh, the description of which so famously punctuated Michael Ruhlman’s “The Soul of a Chef” (Viking, 2000), is indeed all that. Can’t tell from TV.
