The Orange County food community is used to coming together to serve and celebrate. But sometimes, its members gather to pool talents for more somber reasons. In September, popular O.C. chef Greg Moro was very seriously injured in a motorcycle accident. He remains hospitalized, and his family and friends are rallying support for recovery. A GoFundMe account has been created, and a Facebook page updates his progress.
For his part, Orange County culinary legend chef Pascal Olhats is planning a breakfast at Manassero Farms in Irvine on Saturday, Oct. 29, to benefit Moro’s recovery fund. There’s a personal aspect, beyond the usual chef solidarity—Moro spent his early years as a chef working for Olhats. Additional O.C. chefs participating in the breakfast include Pascal Gimenez of Café Beau Soleil in Newport Beach, Debra Sims of Maro Wood Grill in Laguna Beach, and Chris Tzorin of Tempo Urban Kitchen in Brea—Tzorin’s another Olhats protégé.
Manassero Farms owner Anne Manassero says, “This event is to help out our great friend, and an amazing chef, Greg. He has a great spirit and a wonderful fresh, new, and always-tasty approach to life, and food. His love of incorporating local, farm-fresh foods is a perfect fit with our farm. We love seeing his creativity transform our produce into something amazing, and we look forward to having him cooking with us again soon!”
