Mind Your Onions—Farmers Market Holiday Schedule

Peak Cooking Season draws ever nearer. Whether you’re already drafting lists or haven’t yet devoted a single thought, it might be a good time to factor in farmers market holiday closures. Fresh from Trish Harrison, manager of four of Orange County’s best markets: Tustin Wednesday, Costa Mesa Thursday, Laguna Hills Friday, and the flagship Saturday market in Irvine, this closure schedule covers hers as well as the other markets sponsored by the Orange County Farm Bureau.

November:

Friday, Nov. 24, Costa Mesa

Thursday, Nov. 24, Huntington Beach

December:

Saturday, Dec. 3, Irvine

Sunday, Dec. 25, Laguna Niguel

Tuesday, Dec. 27, Irvine Regional Park

Wednesday, Dec. 28, Tustin

Thursday, Dec. 29, Costa Mesa

Friday, Dec. 30, Laguna Hills and Huntington Beach

January:

Sunday, Jan. 1, Laguna Niguel

It’s high season at the moment for the beautiful persimmons in the photo, both the flatter, tomato-shaped Fuyu, to be consumed while crisp, and teardrop-shaped Hachiya, which should be allowed to soften to sheer squishiness for maximum deliciousness.
