Mass-market raspberries can leave you wondering how in the world did this fruit get such an exalted reputation. So having Pudwill Berry Farms of Nipomo, whose berries are preferred by chefs like Spago’s Sherry Yard, available locally, is reason to rejoice. Find them at two Saturday O.C. farmers markets: the big one in Irvine near UCI, and the newish one in Orange’s Old Towne (whose opening appeared in an earlier ToOC). Pudwill’s raspberries, golden or red, justify the superlatives.
