Loft-y Chef Shuffle at the Montage Brings Michael Campbell Aboard

Chef Michael Campbell HeadshotOne of the fine dining restaurants at the Montage Hotel has a new chef at the helm. Not Studio, where Craig Strong continues to lead the kitchen, but The Loft—Michael Campbell is now chef de cuisine. Campbell replaces Casey Overton, who’s moving into different responsibilities at the resort. Campbell is already familiar to Orange County diners, having served as opening chef of Costa Mesa’s Pueblo, where he applied his Barcelona tapas experience. He’s also a veteran of Michael Mina’s RN74 in San Francisco, after beginning his career in the Pacific Northwest. “This restaurant is known for its creativity,” says Campbell, “and I look forward to working with the team to further enrich the welcoming culture and incredible dining experience it provides.”

Overton’s work at The Loft made him a favorite of the Orange County foodnoscenti, who’ll be happy to know he remains on the scene. He’s now executive sous chef for the Montage, working with executive chef Rob Wilson overseeing day-to-day culinary and beverage operations. Overton joined the Montage in 2005, working as a cook at Studio before becoming the Loft’s chef de cuisine. “I’m really happy about my new role,” Overton says, “and am excited to add my influence to the whole of the hotel.”
