Orange Coast Senior Editor Chris Christensen has a wrap-up of last weekend’s fundraiser for the Huntington Beach Children’s Library…
When asked to be one of six judges at Sunday’s Taste of Huntington Beach, I jumped at the chance to sample the fare of 46 of the city’s restaurants. What a quick and easy way to whittle down your favorites so you know where to go back for more. It was a gorgeous day, and the happy, buzzy crowd and bevy of wine entries (no, I didn’t get to judge those!) made it feel like a cocktail party at high noon.
Kudos to the other judges, who took time out of their busy Sunday to assist: Cathy Thomas and Nancy Luna of The Orange County Register; Rich Manning of Gayot and OCfoodies; Teri Williams of Great Taste Magazine; and Eva Kilgore of The Huntington Beach Wave and the Reg.
Dish of the day? The only one I was certain of in this blind-tasting: Slater’s 50/50 PB&J burger—brioche bun, bacon, peanut butter, and strawberry jam. I’m still fantasizing about it.―Chris Christensen
