Chile Relleno and Kurt Russell at Taco Asylum

And get a gander at the Taco Tuesday lineup from the Costa Mesa alti-taco specialist

Turns out that Kurt Russell, in addition to being everybody’s favorite heartthrob-winemaker-Goldie Hawn life partner, is, like all the best people, a taco fan. Russell was spotted at Taco Asylum in Costa Mesa on Monday chillaxing with a friend and a late-lunch trio of chef Carlos Anthony’s signature alti-tacos: short rib, banh mi, and the new chile relleno. Doesn’t that make a nice mental picture? He also ordered a Taco Asylum blonde, a craft beer created in collaboration with Costa Mesa neighbor Barley Forge Brewing Co. commemorating the restaurant’s fifth anniversary last month. Good choice, Kurt!

But wait. Chile relleno? Indeed. Yet another thing to love about Russell—and Taco Asylum. Chile relleno is my go-to burrito where available, but I’ve never seen such a taco. I’ll be making my way down to Taco Asylum to try asap.

And if you’re looking for somewhere to Taco Tuesday today, consider Taco Asylum’s 3-2-1 specials, available from 3 to 10 p.m.: $3 classic tacos, $2 off draught beer, and $1 off specialty tacos and canned beer—the latter including retrotastic Pabst Blue Ribbon tallboys.
